Dream of the Endless... He accumulates names like others accumulate friends. But of friends, he has few. He is closest to his sister Death, of all his siblings, but even at that, he is not good at being close. She often had to yell at her younger brother to show him the error of his ways. His closeness to Death may have been a hint as to the fact that he would eventually be taken by her. He is known as Morpheus, L'Zoril, Oneiros, Kai'Ckul, the King of Dreams, the Prince of Stories, the Shaper of Form, The Oneiromancer, The Sandman, Lord of the Sleeping Marches, King of the Riddle Realms... You know this figure, even if you do not realize it. This is the Dream you grew up with, the Dream whose funeral you attended. Even the Enless have to change or die, and in the end, there was only so much this Dream could allow himself to change. Perhaps it is fitting that Dream, the incarnation of hope, died, just like his sister Despair, the incarnation of despair, died long ago. In the end, it was his kindness to his son, to let him finally die, that was the downfall of Morpheus, although he certainly knew what was coming, and prepared for his own desmise, although he may not have let even himself truly realize it. But this Dream of the Endless did not truly die, for how can you kill a point of view? He is only one reflection, and he stepped aside for another interpretation, the new Dream. You may still see this Dream, for there are areas of the Dreaming where time is fluid, and if you ever find yourself in these soft places, you may yet see poor Morpheus again.
